There is more to it than just backing up

Backing up your computer, computers, or network, is very important.  Whether you are a personal user, small business owner and beyond, it is imperative you backup your data.  There is, however, more to it than that.

Don't get me wrong, the backup is important.  It should be done a daily basis, verified that it worked, and tested that it can be read and restored.  A system that notifies you if the backup did not work is ideal, alerting you to the situation.  Whether you backup on site or to a cloud, these steps need to be done on a regular basis.

Where backups backup your user data, you also need to have the information available to:
  • Reinstall software
  • Recreate user accounts and passwords
  • Reinstall printers
  • Reinstall network connections
Sometimes this information is not so readily available and can delay getting you up and running.

Regularly doing an audit making sure the above information is available and accessible, as well as regular backups being done, can save you a lot of headaches down the road.
